CAMPUS

FUNAMBULISM

Slackampus is back for the third edition

The free slackline festival organized by students will take place in the SG Hall on Saturday 23rd of March.

The practice of slackline has been constantly increasing in Switzerland and in the rest of the world for the past few years. This triggered our will to organize an event both educational and entertaining related to slackline. At EPFL and UNIL, the community of slack lovers gathers more and more people throughout the weekly trainings on Mondays at the sports center. This led us to offer a friendly event open to everyone on the campus, where sport, fun and balance will be the keywords driving the festival.
Slackampus Festival will take place for the third time in the SG Hall on Saturday March 23rd 2019, from 9am to 7pm, after the great success of the past two editions. This will be a gold opportunity to discover all the sensations of slackline, or just to improve your balance and stability by practicing your skills on the multiple lines.
Every kind of lines – short lines, mid lines and rodeo lines – will be tended in the SG building and supervised by experienced slackliners. The festival will also include workshops, contests and safety training throughout the day: everything for free to delight beginners as well as more advanced.

SPORT

Free practice for stress relief

Why not take 30 to 45 minutes off your busy day in order to restore your physical energy, strengthen your emotional balance, boost your problem-solving competencies, creativity and mental efficiency?

The Sports and Health Center offers free sessions in relaxation, sport, nutrition, and various health issues like strengthening your back and cardio workout.
You will be requested to open an account on the website, but all shot sessions are free of charge. This is an incredible opportunity to experiment the benefits of getting some relief from your daily stress in your studies or work.
Since March 21st 2019 the shot sessions in relaxation also take place in English. There is no need to change your clothes for this practice. Relaxation sessions are ideal to get relief from the pressures related to the examination sessions if you are a student, but also from the mental exhaustion that may occur in scientific work.
If you should get hooked to the 30 minutes relaxation practice, you may even consider joining the private relaxation sessions lasting one hour and taking place in series of 6 weekly sessions. These sessions cost CHF 134.– per hour but the price is divided by all participants. This means that you can access on the EPFL site to a personalized one hour practice at a reasonable price and without taking your car or bike to attend the course. At this stage, private sessions are given in French only. However this could also be an opportunity for you to assimilate French in a practical context.
The shot sessions and paying private sessions take place over the lunch break either at the BI building or the CM, which are well centered for you to access.
As the scientific research on health shows all of these practices produce immediate effect on your well being and put you on the path to building up your physical, emotional and mental balance. So why hesitate to take this amazing opportunity on our campus? After all you are the best person to know how to take care of yourself.
